Journalism Department Tour to Nation Media Group
On June 20th 2024, a group of students from the Journalism Department at NIBS Technical College had the unique opportunity to visit one of Kenya’s leading mainstream media houses. The students toured the expansive NTV Newsroom, gaining valuable insights into news production and presentation intricacies.
The visit was organized as part of NIBS Technical College’s commitment to providing hands-on learning experiences and exposing students to a real-world media environment. The students were welcomed warmly by the #NTV team, who guided them through various sections of the newsroom, including the editorial desk, production areas, and broadcasting studios.
During the tour, students observed firsthand how news stories are developed, from initial reporting and fact-checking to final editing and broadcast. They were introduced to the latest technology and equipment used in modern news production and had the chance to watch live news broadcasts in action. This experience provided them with a practical understanding of the fast-paced and dynamic nature of the news industry.
One of the highlights of the visit was an interactive session with NTV’s seasoned journalists and producers. The professionals shared their experiences, offered career advice, and answered numerous questions from the enthusiastic students. Topics discussed included the importance of accuracy and ethics in journalism, the challenges faced in news reporting, and the evolving role of digital media.
